Who are the people in your neighborhood?
The ones directly across the street had the singing Santa every year at Christmas. Oh and their son broke into our house on the 4th of July and stole our fireworks and our jewelry. He was the best.
Next door to them was the school nurse. The only thing I remember about her was her diagnosing my sister with ringworm. And their yard was always perfect.
Next to them was my friend's house. We would bags and bags of popcorn at their house. They had the first trampoline in the neighborhood and the coolest fort in the back yard. One of my most embarrassing moments happened there...but we won't talk about that just yet.
Next to them lived Tommy. He was an only child. That's all I know about him.
Then there was the guy who always parked his muddy truck on the sidewalk so none of us kids could ride on the sidewalk in front of his house. And he had a mean dog that would bark from the backyard fence. I think he secretly enjoyed watching us kids freak out when we would forget about the dog and nearly fall off or bikes.
There was the Vietnamese couple who once had some guys try to break in their house while the husband was gone and the woman shot one of intruders. Then they bought a very scary dog.
Next to them was the boy who got struck by lightening and lived.
We think the people at the end of the street were drug dealers, but that was never proven. My sister accidentally scratched their car door with the bumper of our car. Most people use a key, she used the whole car.
Our next door neighbor terrorized my 13th birthday party, tried to poison our dog, and shot me in the leg with a BB gun. He was another winner.
But, the person across from the side yard...she was my best friend. She moved into the neighborhood in 7th grade and was my best friend all through high school and beyone. Her name was Stephanie too. (though mine is spelled with n 'f'.) We would hang out, take turns sleeping over. We shared everything from our name, to clothes, and even a boyfriend once.
