I think I am pretty good....but
I think I am pretty athletic.
I think I am pretty good.
But you see, I will never really know because the sister who was just older than me was phenominal in EVERY sport she played. She played two different college sports...and almost 3.
It wasn't her fault that she was so good. It isn't her fault that I am unable to judge how athletic I am.
I grew up playing soccer and softball and basketball. I ran track, cross-country. I loved volleyball. I enjoy playing most sports.

Silly runs deep in my family. As in generations.
All of my siblings have a dose of it running through their veins. Mine seems to spew out on a consistant basis. The silliness. My dad carries a large amount of silly in him as well. That's where the silly comes from. He got it from my grandma.
I love my grandma. I don't know anyone who doesn't like their grandma. Okay, not totally true. I know one person who doesn't. I guess silly doesn't run in her blood. But my grandma is full of silly.
The first time she met my uncle, you know when he was just a potential uncle, they were all sitting around the table. My grandma would secretly take one of her watermelon seeds and shoot it at him. He kept looking around trying to figure out who was doing that. He was shocked when he saw her laughing at the end of the table.
I remember one time when I was young waiting for Grandma and Grandpa to arrive. I was sitting outstide watching for them when I saw two people walking down the street. The closer they got, the scarier they looked. Then they started to come into our yard. I was so scared I ran in the house frantic. Turns out Grandma and Grandpa had parked up the street and put on these crazy masks.
The most memorable story, though, is the time Grandma was flying. This happened about 20 years ago, when I was young. Grandma was flying and as she stepped onto the plane she made a comment about having a gun. She, my short sweet grandmother, was escorted off the plane, held for questioning and wasn't able to return to the flight.
She really is quite a silly woman. I don't have any more

Let's go
Reasons not to climb over the driver's seat.
Kobe accidentally hit the emergency brake this morning and started the car rolling.
My reaction was a bit moronic. First I looked at him and told him to stop the car. Hello, if he knew how to do that he would have done it already. Then I tried to stop it myself by grabing the door handle. Finally Kobe unlocked the door and I jumped in and stopped it.
I could have just told him to pull the emergency brake. I could have told him to slam on the middle peddle.

SIMADM: Kids, what did they say
How do your kids relate to having to interpret as well? (or do they?)

We have tried to make it a point that our kids don't interpret. But there are times when I ask them to....
SIMADM: I did not marry to interpret
There were times that I got tired of signing with my friend, Roy. People wanted me to translate and I just got tired. Does this happen with you sometimes, too?
SIMADM: It's who I am...even better
Have you found it hard to communicate your own true feelings through signing. I mean, I find it hard to sometimes get the point across to my husband when I am yelling and pounding my head into the wall - I was thinking how much harder it would be if I had to sign it. You know the whole Mars vs. venus thing
SIMADM: We are out of TP!!!!!
Do you have some kind of a system like if you run out of toilet paper. Instead of being able to yell out the door "hey honey can you bring me some TP we're out in here - do you flash a light or something?"
SIMADM: Ripple Effect
Have you found that more people in your life have learned to sign? Your family? Your friends?
SIMADM: Where it all began....
Was hubs born deaf? Does he use his voice at all? Okay, that's all I got!
SIMADM: Communicate how
Back in the day, I had a t.t.y....but I bet now with texting you don't really need to make many phone calls. Do you and hubs text a lot?
SIMADM: Children
Have your children learned sign language automatically or have you had to actively teach them? Do they ever use the language to speak to each other in a way their friends can't understand?
How do you think they experience having a father who is deaf? Or do they just take it for granted? Do their friends have trouble relating to your husband since they cannot easily converse with him?
Do your children's friends sign to him?

This weeks ideas
Parents got their mission papers in
Camden grew 3/4 inch and gained one pound. Whoot. If he keeps this up, he will be bigger than his daddy.
Spending $300 on school supplies. That was fun. Hven't even made an attempt at school clothes yet.
Cleaning 3 bedroom and getting rid of 4 bags full of donations. (I haven't even touched the toys that will be leaving our house soon. Mwahahahahaha!)
Actually spending 4 hours alone with Hubs. Of course it was watching Transformers, which to me is a total guy movie....nice cars that turn into killing machines...yeah, nothing chick about it. Does anyone else agree that this is just a guy movie summer? (Thor, X-men, Green Lantern, Transformers, Captain America) I need a chick flick...badly...or I am going to kill someone. See what violence watching these shows inflicts.

Moooo-ving on....
I have a child who loves milk. If given the choice between milk and almost any other beverage, he would choose milk. Honestly, I think if he could bathe in it. So glad he can't because that would just be nasty. Really.
This is the same child who gets headaches. All. The. Time. As in, he lives daily with headaches, sometimes they are livable and other days they are crippling. This has been happening since he was seven years old. He is now eleven. We had tried every
thing: visiting the pediatrician, dentist, optometrist, chiropractor, neurologist, MRI, loading him up with water, veggies, meat, etc. Nothing helped!
One day, this milk loving child had a large Oreo blizzard which was quickly followed by a massive migraine.
Hmmmm. Veddy Interesting!
So we cut all milk from our milk loving child, for a week. And guess what! Not one headache. All week. Holy cow! It was that simple.
Not only that, but Hubs who also suffers with headaches, did the cut too. And wouldn't you know it...zero headaches.
How did we not figure this out sooner? Maybe you all are saying, "Well, duuuuuh!" But not even the multiple specialists we went to asked about his diet. Weird.
No matter. Now that we know the cause, we can keep an eye on it. Now that we know, we can hopefully prevent them. Now that we know, this mama can feel at ease...for the moment.
Dang dairy!

Thank you Mom
I remember the game.
I remember a blue Bambi blanket.
And I remember a blue bowl with fudge in it.
I am not quite sure what I was doing before Mom came in the room. I do know I was with my sisters. Mom walked into the room with a big blue Bambi blanket. She spread it out all over the floor.
She told us to get on it. We did.
"This is a boat. Do not get off the boat. No matter what. Or the sharks will get you."
I rememeber thinking what a fun game this was going to be. I am sure somewhere in the staying I fell asleep, all part of her master plan, I am sure.
The next thing I remember was waking up to my mom mixinf fudge in a blue metal bowl.
Such an odd, random memory. What can we learn from it?
If you are a tired, probably pregnant mother, just lay out a blanket and make it into a game. And when you wake up, it's okay to have chocolate.
Now that is sure to make a lasting memory. It did for me.

He buried the revolver
Brian stole a gun from the neighbor. It was loaded. He then hid it in his backyard.
One day he was roaming with his dog and found a rattlesnake. He trapped it with rocks and went to get the gun. He shot the snake, buried the gun,
lovely!

Seven wonders/
I don't even know what they are to be honest. I know a few of them,but....who decided that they were wonders.
I have a few natural wonder of my own. Actually I am sure they are shared by most if not all parents.
1. How can children walk on rocks like it is cotton? I take one step and am crying....out loud.
2. Why, even when you keep them up a little later than normal will children still wake up at the crack of dawn?
3.

They think the hole under the trampoline is funner than the trampoline.
They get really excited about poking out the eyes of a catfish.

It's all a blurr
I really don't get the hype with 3D movies.
I mean, yeah, they gross a lot of money. But that's because they charge a lot of money.
And it's not like the picture feels like it is right in front of you. If I am going to pay that much for 3D, I want to feel like I am there. Like REALLY there. As in...the bullet just grazed my ear there.
Apparently I am not the only one. On our trip to the dollar theatre that cost more than a dollar because the NORMAL viewing was sold out (see Tues post) we had to go 3D.
Briggy, my two year old prefered to watch with his glasses on his head. On top of his head. Maybe he has blurred vision thus the picture looks normal to him. Maybe he was born with 3D already installed in his little eyes. But he didn't like the glasses.
He kept putting them on his head.
I'm glad someone else agrees with me.

fashion rule that you either break or enforce.
I don't wear heals. High heals.
I used to wear pumps. But since being pregnant with my first, I really have had no desire to. At all.
I wish I did. There are a lot of cute shoes out there. And who knows, maybe when I get to the point in my life when I am no longer carrying children, I will change my mind. But I don't.
Some of those things look like they hurt.
They hurt your toes, they hurt your calfs, and possibly the arch in your foot.
I'm just saying.

Share a Summer Camp memory.
Have you ever seen a snipe?
They are little.
They are furry.
They only come out at night
And the love noise. Lots and lots of it.
I remember going snipe hunting my first year at girls camp. All the older girls talked and talked about it. I was a little skeptical because on all the camping trips my family had taken, Snipes were never mentioned.

A boy you had a crush on...where is he now?
I once liked a guy....
He would look for me in the same building that we had class in together.
He would ask me to dinner.
He invited me to watch basketball game at his house. Who cares that I don't really like basketball. At all. Least favorite sport to watch....okay, not totally true. Wrestling is number one. Basketball is a close second.
Then I invited him to dinner at my house. My sister and I made enchiladas. So good! He took a bite, raved about how great it was. Then took another bite. This time, leaving a dangling string of cheese on his chin. My sister busted out laughing, but then had to leave.
I noticed her and then it and then tried to suck in my cheeks and not laugh. I would have said something immediately, but my sister had made it extremely awkward to do so. But then me giggling, unable to hold it in, eventually told him.
He didn't call me after that. He didn't look for me in the halls. He didn't invite me to his place.
Sigh....
What can I say, not everyone likes my enchiladas.

From a church.
On accident.
Am I going to Hell?
Let me explain.
There was a group of us women who were in a bookclub. We normally would meet at each other's houses for the monthly discussion.
However, at the time we were in an apartment that wouldn't accomidate the number of women in the club. So we had it at the churh
I was hosting which meant I was providing the refreshments. I however. Forgot to brunch the necessary utensils for the food
I accidentally brought home the knife and bow to wash but forgot to bring them back
I justify my guilt be saying that Simeon form church took my salad bowl and utnensils.
Is it wrong that the knife is my favorite?
Should have been a fork. A pitch fork.

A memorable neighbor.
Chuck Ford.
He was our neighbor for most of my childhood.
When we were young, he would come play at our house and I over at his. I was never allowed to actually play IN his house. But as long as my mom could see me in the yard we were good.
Our friendship was a little bi-polar though.
One day he would be helping me dip toilet paper in the toilet and throwing it on the wall. The next minute he would be saying naughty words and getting sent home.
One day he would be sharing his cars with me and the next day he would refuse to leave our yard even though my older sister was threatening and pretending to call the cops.
He really wasn't the nicest kid. But he came from a not so nice familly life. But my parents always let him come back and forgave him of his many offenses.
Like the time he broke into our house when we were out of town and stole all our fireworks and some of our jewelry. How did we know it was him? Because he had given his sister my sister's neclace that said, "I am a Child of God."
Or the time he tried to kiss me. And my sister. And my other sister. He never had a chance.
He had really stinky feet. He would come and jump on our trampoline and man could he clear the yard.

Have you ever forgotten your child in a
HOw could a mother do that? Leave her baby without knowing he was missing?
What kind of mother does that?
This kind....
I accidentally left Camden in the car one night when we went into a party.
It wasn't until someone asked me where my baby was that I remembered, he was still in the backseat of the car.
I had become one of them.

who would you call first if you won the lottery?
First, it would be a miracle because I don't EVER buy lottery tickets. EVER. I don't have that kind of luck
But if I did I am not sure who I would call
Mom and Dad...I might feel guilty admitting that I bought the ticket.
Siblings....same thing.
Kids....They would start demanding a trip to the dollar store every flipping day.
etc

My UN-favorite things
Things you will never catch me doing...
Scrapbooking. I have tried it. Enough to know that I should never do it again. No. I am serious! I know that you can do it online...but by now, with 5 kids do you know how long it would take me to catch up???
Answering the door in a sheet. Why do people do this? When I was a missionary for my church, more than once people would come to the door in only a sheet. Hello! I am a total stranger. Why on earth would you ruin a made bed to open the door from someone you don't even know.

God really is there!
Dn't need someone else to pray for me

Yard Sale!
Yard sales are interesting things aren't they.
Things you will hear at a yard sale:
"Drive by" This is just checking to see if their junk is worth you spare change. More times than not, our Sat mornings are spent driving by.
On the chance that we do stop I can't tell you how many times I have looked at something and thought to myself, "You bought this new? On purpose? Really?? And you think you are really going to get money for it?? Wow!
Then there are those people who try and get full price for their things. I can understand baby clothes...but there is no way you are going to get that much money for the doll house...seriously. $300. It's a yard sale. Maybe I just don't understand the value of a potty training toilet. I know they hold somethings, but value isn't one of them.
Other times you can get the deal of a lifetime. The couches I have in my livingroom...yard sale! Right now they are covered with sharpie marker, thanks to my little Brig monster...artists! But they look really nice and were in perfect condition. And they were a really REALLY good price.
Then there are those people who drive around scooping up every super deal just so they can take the stuff and sell it on Craig's list. Jerks. They are out at like 6am stealing all the good stuff up only to make a profit on it a weeks later. Some people call that good business sense. I call it just mean!

Disgusting habits
Picking his nose...finger in his nose almost 50% of the day. Maybe it is a comfort thing?
Talking about bums, farts, burps, and...er...other areas of boys bodies. Why must they talk, touch, obsess and bring up anytime they want a good laugh. Seriously???
My son hates washing his pillowcase. It is so gross. The other day he stuck a hat on his head for about 30 minutes. Took it off, smelled it and said, "Ahhh, this smells so good." I smelled it. It smelled like dirty head. I guess some people like that.

Buzzwords
Hitting the slide.... quitting. To me it means a 2 year old throwing a fit.
Scooby snacks....cheap incentives. These are the fruit snacks that you can get at Sam's club in bulk!
Jenifer Lopez...nice rouding bottom. If we are looking for round, I have got a great ROUND tire around my waiste.....
